Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 liver disease, hep c, and kidney failure in 2011. I took on the role of her primary caretaker until she passed away late 2014. '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'I was a sophomore in high school at the time I became her caregiver. I ended up missing that school year to be able to fully focus on her care. Luckily a school counselor helped me transfer into a charter school so I could get my diploma while being able to provide my mom with proper care.'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'Her strength and the way she would smile through the pain. How infectious her laugh was. So many things about her.'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'There was one time before a doctor appointment a song came on the tv and we "karate" danced throughout the house.

Another time was after she was told we were gonna be trying a new medicine that she would have to inject in her lower abdomen, we got snacks, ordered takeout and just sat in the living room watched movies until she was able to sleep.'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'By letting me know when I'm doing good every once in a while. '
