Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'The reason I enjoy being a great caregiver is because I have experienced disabilities first hand. I know how hard it is to need, want, and accept help from others. Simple things like showering and feeling comfortable with your care provider can make or break your day. Things like taking out your trash, helping with dishes, keeping an orderly home, making doctors appointments, staying hydrated, taking the right medication, and completing physical therapy orders are needed and necessary to keep your dignity and overall emotional and physical well being. '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'Recently I went to Salem to buy super awesome tacos from a local vendor. I witnessed a young black male curled up in a corner with nothing but a white medical blanket. He was homeless and it was not a nice warm day. My background in security made it possible for me to safely approach him and inquire about what his struggle was. I went to a local Goodwill and bought him a sleeping bag. I also included some snacks and some cash. My heart was full and I could go home and peacefully enjoy my tacos. I hope that he stays warm this winter and gets his life back together. '

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'The most meaningful people not just one where my educators. They took the time to help me not just with education, but really making me feel part of the community. '

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'My teachers have always helped me improve my proficiency in English as my second language. The resource officer who would always give my mother and I I rides after my doctors appointments and would make sure I made it home safely after field trips. My college instructors who would help me with my psychology and math classes. '

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'Continue reaching out. I really enjoy seeing and hearing stories from others at the monthly meetings. Continuing education is great. '
