Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

What's most important to you about working in a home environment?

'What's most important to me about working in a home environment is the person that I will be caring for in that home. I respect that it IS their home. Many people want to stay home and not go into nursing homes. If I can help them stay in their home, be comfortable and happy, I will try my best. I will do my best to give them the love, care and attention that they need.'

Share with us a time you created a positive experience for another person.

'My brother lives in Staten Island, NY. We didn't meet until I was 41 and he was 53. He flew out here to meet me a few years ago. I took him around and showed him a few different things. We went to Mount St. Helen's, Lucia Falls, Lewisville Park and Lake Merwin. He is from the city so he enjoyed getting out in nature. Most of all, he said the best thing about the trip was meeting his sister.'

What relationship was most important to you growing up? And why?

'The most important relationship to me when I was growing up was with my grandparents. My mom is an only child so I didn't have to share them with any cousins, only my two little brothers. My grandparents were so good to me my whole life! They taught me so many things. They spent a lot of money on me over the years. The thing I loved the most was how much time they spent with me. I wouldn't have had half the things I did growing up if it wasn't for them. I could go to them with anything and they would listen and comfort me. If I am a quarter of the grandparent to my grandbabies that they were to me, I'll be doing great!'

Please share one or two memories you have with that most important person from your childhood...

'Sharing one or two memories of my grandparents is so hard because there are so many! I do have two that stick out in my mind when I think of them though. One memory is of my grandparents always being outside with me and my brothers. They would sit in their lawn chairs at the end of the driveway, drink their soda out of glass bottles and watch me and my brothers ride our bikes and roller skate. I cherish the time that they spent with me. The other memory is of my grandpa. He was so smart! He would drive me crazy when I would tell him a joke or a riddle. At the end of the joke or riddle I wouldn't want him to guess the answer, I just wanted to tell him the punch line. He would never let me. He would always sit and think about the answer. I would ask him over and over "Do you give up?" and he would always say "No". Sometimes he wouldn't give up for hours or a day or so. It's funny to me now but it made me crazy back then!'

Other than giving you a job, if I could grant you one wish to help you on your journey... what would it be? And why?

'I would wish to always enjoy the little things in life and not to stress about things that won't matter tomorrow. I believe this would make me happier and able to enjoy my journey to its fullest!'
