Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I want to become a caregiver to be able to help people and a feel that I’m doing a job that matters. I have always enjoyed the company of elderly and have much in common with them. I enjoy being in a home setting and love to cook, serve and take care of people. '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'One time my 97yr old grandma got her oxygen cord caught on a kitchen cupboard door knob and wrapped around her wheel chair. I came over to her house and found her all out of breath and frustrated because she couldn’t get free. I was able to quickly untangle her and calm her down. She said I rescued her. I was just glad I was there at that moment to help her.'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'I was lucky to grow up with an awesome family with lots of people who loved me! How can I pick just one! One thing they all have in common was playing cards and laughing and telling stories'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'One time at a family gathering we play a 9 handed game of solitaire, with two people per deck (because so many people wanted to play). We were so excited and we laughed so much that we we all crying and our stomachs hurt!'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'Just by communicating and being understanding and respecting each other.'
