Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'The people I work with tell me'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I wanted to become a caregiver because I wanted a career that helped people. When I have a job that is heavily involved with taking care of people and helping them I am the happiest. I feel like I am doing something worthwhile, and I am doing good in the world. So I became a caregiver/ Medical technician because I was able to fulfill the role of helping people.
'

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'Working at a care facility you have residents that need physical and emotional help daily. Though in my opinion emotional help is more commonly needed. Where your presence is needed in the build to know for them to know they will be taken care of. This sometimes means sitting there and allowing them to vent about their families not coming to visit, or just giving them a hug. I had a resident in the past that felt like no one was on her side and that her family did not really care about her. Because of these feelings, she felt hopeless most of the time. Knowing this information, I made sure every evening I would take 5-10 minutes just talking to this resident. We talked about her day and how she was doing. Over the months that we had made this our routine, she told me that our evening conversations were the best part of her day. That because of our conversations she could tell that I truly care about her. So to me, it's the little things that made the biggest difference in the care we proved to our residents. '

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'The most meaningful person in my life has been my mother. Why she has been this special person is because of all her hard work and admiration to get where she is today. My mom was pregnant with me when she was 21 years old and going to college. During this time she had to grow up and figure out how she was going to graduate from college and raise a baby girl. She was able to do this by getting a job, the help of family, budgeting, hard work, grit, and so much more. Hearing this the story of how she was able to get through this hump in her life, allows me to know that I cam cable of doing anything I set my mind to. '

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'One of the best memories I have with my mother is our conversations about nursing school. Because it has been a hard and difficult ride getting into nursing school. Though with each and every one of these conversations my mom never let me give up and always lets me know my worth. '

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'
The best thing to do to create a supportive and positive work experience for me is to let me know that I am appreciated and that you think I am an asset to the company. As well as good communication to make sure nothing gets lost in translation. '
