Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The changes I can accomplish'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I realized that l wanted to be a caregiver as l feel a special connection to people especially the disadvantaged. I am a kind hearted young man with a heart full of love. I feel like care giving is best suited for me as l have always wanted to be there for people who need assistance.'

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'I grew up in a poor but rough society when l met Tendai. She was carrying a very heavy sack of firewood and no one bothered to assist her. I was on my way to school but l felt like l could do something so l helped her and when l got to her house she was all alone as she had been abandoned by her children. I was late for school but l felt that it was worth it . I made a special connection with her and so every afternoon after school l would go to her house cook for her, do her little garden and help to clean up the place. She sometimes had nothing to eat so l would pack my lunch and share with her. I became so connected to her to an extent where l felt like she was my own grandmother. Sadly she passed away in November 2017 in her 70's.'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'I believe my mother has been important. I grew up in a very poor family and my father had passed away the year l was born. We would sleep some nights with nothing to eat. Due to poverty many people dropped out of school but she was always struggling and fighting hard for me to go to school. She is very loving and caring and she has helped me a lot to appreciate the little that we have and to always give back to the society.'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'We have a special relationship with my mother and she has taught me to always give back . Every Friday's we would go to Warren Park clinic to help patients by helping them eat and wash their clothes. We have always formed good relations with people as we successfully convinced a group of people to help to clean up the community in June 2017. Besides my mother l have proud memories of myself as l managed to help Mr Ibhu to read and write at the age of 72. '

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'Caregiving is like a calling for me and l believe by giving me more people to take care of l can archive my dreams. I don't do it for money but for love and passion. '
