Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I am a caregiver because I care! I care about people! I for some reason have been drawn to the elderly! I have found out that I have a heart for our seniors! I admire and respect them! My job is not a job, it's a calling! And I'm so glad that I answered that call over 20 years ago! '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'I was there for one of my ladies a few years back! She was on hospice care and all she wanted was for me to stay with her through to the end! And I was there for her and I took care of her the last few weeks and days of her life! And she got the best care possible! I loved her and she loved me! We had a special relationship!'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'My grandma was my world! I thought that grandma could do no wrong! She loved and gave from her heart! She just knew how to make you feel better! She was a very loving and caring person! '

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'Grandma and grandpa took us to Sunday school when we spent the weekend with her! She would always help me to get ready to go to church! She would tell me about Jesus! She would sing songs to me with me! I loved to hear grandma sing! Grandma and I would spend time in the kitchen too! We would make Christmas cookies together! Also, home made bread! That was always fun!'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'Just by showing that you care about the people in your care! '
