Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I would like to become a caregiver because I am a very caring and compassionate person. I have been in the veterinary field for 12 years and have loved my job caring for dogs and cats, at work and also in the comfort of their own homes. I am changing fields now because although I love my job, I feel as though I have more purpose in working with people in their homes. I enjoy speaking with new people and helping them with whatever they need.'

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'A time when somebody really needed me was approximately one year ago. My mother in law was not answering her phone, and I was worried so I drove over to her house and found her on the floor with vomit surrounding her. She was very sick so I helped her into the shower to clean off, then dressed her and put her to bed after making sure she did not need to go to the hospital or doctor. I then proceeded to clean the carpet, and stayed with her until my sister in law came home to take over. This situation inspired me to inform myself of how I could best start helping people. '

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'The person who was the most meaningful to me when growing up would be my Babcia (Polish for “Grandmother”). She lived in Massachusetts and I spent several weeks with her every summer until I was 19. She was from Poland and always wanted the best for me, and gave me guidance/advice that I still use daily. She was special to me because she was a nurse and loved helping people. '

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'My favorite memories of my Babcia are from when we were with cooking or gardening. She would show me how to make traditional Polish dishes, like Perogies, and we would spend all day in the kitchen talking and cooking. She also had a very large garden that she would take me into and educate me on growing vegetables and identifying al the plants. Even though she had several grandchildren, she always would know it was me calling on the phone and that always made me feel very special. She is no longer with us, but I think about her daily and will instill her knowledge into my own child someday. '

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'A supportive and positive work experience for me would start with a foundation of communication and trust. I like to know exactly what is expected of me and have the guidance and resources to perform at my best. '
