Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'Before my granny passed away she was really sick. I woke up at 5am everyday before I went to get on the school bus to fix her bowl of cereal. She love rice crispy treats cereal. When I came home from school I would go and talk to her and get her bath ready for the night. I helped her wash up and get comfortable with herself. The joy in her eyes when she looked at me made my day everyday. It was like my help gave her hope and I loved that so much. Best feeling ever.'

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'My granny passed two years ago. I would make her breakfast every morning 5:15am before I went off to school. On weekends I got her up and gave her a quick wash down by the sink because I made sure she took a bath every night before bed after dinner. We went for walks to get her legs strong, and I played her favorite song dance with somebody by Whitney Houston to get her spirit up. At times she would forget she still living and give up I’m glad I was there to boost her spirit up. '

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'My mother was the most meaningful to me. She raised all 6 girls on her own. Watching her push through was one of the most amazing things I could ever experience. Her motivation to see joy in her girls and others eyes made me want to be just like her. I think of her as a hero. '

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'One moment is Christmas Eve. Every year we have a big Christmas Eve party and I love to draw. My mom saved up money all year just to get me this art kit it cost like 300 and something. I told her she didn’t have to because I know she had to buy gifts for her other 5 daughters, but she did. I love her motivation to see us smile.
The other moment is when recently we went on a family trip to gatlinburge it was beautiful. My mother rented out this mansion for us to stay in for three days. She made sure she picked a mansion with a dance room because I am also a dancer. We had this dance contest I loved it. She is something very special.'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'With a smile. I would feel comfortable and positive with smiles. As my granny use to tell me anywhere there is negative energy can be over powered with positive vibes all you do is kill negativity with a smile. '
