Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I am a caregiver because I love helping people. My mother and I share the responsibility of taking care of my grandmother and my Aunt who is physically handicap and has a mental disability. They both share a home together and they both have different needs. I've learned how to change colostomy bags when my grandmother had to have a small piece of her intestine removed. My motto is, is that I have got to get old one day so I would want someone who is really passionate about taking care of seniors just and being there for people just as I am. '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'A couple of weeks ago and elderly gentleman came into my job. Once he got to the counter he told me he didn't feel very well. I got him a chair and sat him down to prevent him from falling on the floor because he felt week. He began to tell me how he has conjested heart failure. He was insisted on driving around the corner and I told him that wasn't a good idea and asked him for his wife's or one of children's phone number to see if some one was able to come and get him. In the mean time I was able to provide him with a bottle of water and some peanut butter crackers. I was able to get ahold of his daughter and she came and picked him up about 10 minutes later and she was very thankful for the care I provided while he was there.'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'My grandmother was a and will always be a special person in my life.'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'The memories that I had with my grandmother were stories of her and her siblings growing up in a small town in Kentucky.
I will never forget how we would bake together during the holidays.'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'A positive work experience for me is no negativity...'
