Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The people I work with'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'The people I work with tell me'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I have worked as a care giver about 2 years ago. I first, was a PCA, working with a family for a couple of hours while I was doing my CNA class in high school, which I graduated in 2018. I have ever since been working with the elderly. What I love most is having a relationship with them, rather than just clean them and feed them and that’s all. I enjoy listening to them and getting to know them and building a relationship. I believe that at this age they need to know that they can count on someone at all times and that they matter. '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'One time, at my job as a CNA in an Assisted Living Facility, one of my residents is someone who people cannot understand well and have no patience for. With time, I have learned her ways and how to help her. Many times when someone doesn’t know how to take care of her, I jump in and help her. One time, one of the ladies in the facility brought her to her room and left right away, my lady got very upset and started crying, because she was used to me spending time with her and listening. '

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'Growing up, my mother was a very special person to me. She worked very hard to support the household but always did it with honor and never gave up or did the wrong thing to provide for her family'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'Many times, when I used to get frustrated working In retail and I told her I wanted to quit, she always says that, when leaving a job, it is not professional to just get up and leave, because you never know what will happen in the future. '

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'I appreciate it when employers let their employees know they are special and needed. Many jobs do not care about their employees, they only care about the money.'
