Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I have been a caregiver in the past. I enjoyed my work and found it very rewarding. I am looking forward to beginning a different path of caregiving. I am a very compassionate and loving person and this is the best way I know how to share it with people in need.'

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'At my past job, I had a client that was ill. Unfortunately they had no family near by. They needed to be hospitalized and were completely terrified of doctors and hospitals. They refused to ride in the ambulance. I suggested that I would go with them and stay. They agreed and stayed with them they entire time. In the end they were very sick and needed surgery. Everyone involved were very thankful for my services.'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'I would say my mother was and still is the most meaningful person to me.My entire life she has put my needs before her own. As a single mother she triumphed over obstacles and never quit. The love she gives me is unconditional. I obviously love her dearly!'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'When I was about seven years old I took Irish dancing lessons. I had a competition and
I froze on stage. My stage fright was crippling, I couldnt move. I ran off stage. So for the next year my mother and I worked on over coming my stage fright. She would bring me to family and friends houses for me to dance in front of them. Eventually I went to nursing homes to dance for the residents there. When my competition came the next year.....I won. I know if not for my mothers support I never would have over come my stage fright.'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'I think with an open door policy and understanding. I will be able to make my own positive experience. I believe if the lines of communication are good everything will work out. I think everything that starts out negative can be turned positive.'
