Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The purpose of my work'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'I feel it'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I left the human/social services field due to the high volume of mental stress and heavy work load.
I became CNA certified in 1991 and remembered how much I enjoyed the field before venturing off into human services. I have family members who are caregivers, and they love what they do. This also encouraged me to go back into the line of providing care for the elderly. I've found this job very rewarding; helping people to enjoy better quality of life. It makes me feel good to help others and assist a person in need, while respecting their independence and space as well.'

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'I worked a hospice case for a family and was able to assist in keeping their loved one comfortable and tidy. I was by the client and family's side until the case was closed.'

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'My Grandmother was the most meaningful to me.
She was the person who raised me when I was younger and taught me all the values in life that would take me far in life.'

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'I have many memories of spending time with my Grandmother at her home on the weekends barbecuing, playing board games and just having good family discussions about life. She would always talk to me about life and what to expect as I grew older.

My Grandmother took me everywhere and always introduced me to everyone she knew proudly. She really loved me. '

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'I believe a healthy support network would include good communication, building a strong rapport with the caregiver and working closely with the caregiver to find the right client to work with. Those 3 things are vital to me. '
