Applicant's Story

Regarding your work experience, what's most appealing to you?

'The changes I can accomplish'

When do you know you've done a good job?

'The people I work with tell me'

Why are you a caregiver... or want to become one?

'I’m a caregiver because I passionately love giving others in need that non-judgemental helping hand some are too proud to ask for. I’m also a caregiver because I intend to finish obtaining my RN. '

Tell me of a time when you were there for someone who really needed you.

'My uncle and I used to sit downtown on my days off to enjoy the nice weather and people watch. The same usual individuals would walk by and say hello, some would carry conversations and some would smile and keep it trucking along. This one particular day after knowing he for awhile one the usual walker-byers asked for a ride home because he wanted to beat the ran. I proceeded to give him a ride and helped him with his bags to the top of his stairs. I peeked around the corner and saw the conditions he was living in and asked him respectfully, what happened and why he isn’t living in the conditions he was. After conversing I offer him my number, clothes and furniture, daily and life changing advice and trips to appts that would make a change for the better in his life. '

Think of the person who was most meaningful to you growing up. What made them special to you?

'The most meaningful person to me growing up, would have to be myself. I grew up in DCF care until I turned 18. I’ve been thru traumatizing things as a child and teenager to make someone grow up become a statistic of the negative side of life. (Jail, Crime,Drugs, etc) But instead I turned out to be what I call a big ole Teddybear. I love to smile and laugh and help others in need because when I was a child DCF was there to help me when I couldn’t help myself. '

Please share one or two memories that you had with that person.

'Doing a long term live in case, the client considered me family because he and his family loved what kind of work I did while there.

Another Live In client that suffered from severe dementia would smile and interact with me while always being combative and resistive to the other care giver when he was a 2:1'

How can I help create a supportive and positive work experience for you?

'-Communication
-Open Door Policy
-Annual Take Home or In Office in-services
-Staff Appreciation Certificates on all levels from Entry Level to CEO
-Peer to Peer counseling if needed
